LATEST UPDATE [2004-02-17]: D2IT is fully v1.10 compliant, and can load/save/modify characters and load/save/modify simple items. Support is being added for more complex item editing, as well as a comprehensive sanity-check, using the same data that Diablo 2 uses internally, to flag incorrect items. Its raison d'etre (It's reason to exist)The idea for this project is quite simple. Hundreds (if not thousands) of items can appear in Diablo 2. For players who play online, this means there is an active market economy for items you have found. You can thus trade an item you have found for an item that you want. Unfortunately, the news is not so good for single player and LAN gamers. Thus, I had the idea to create a toolkit, based on the tremendous efforts by others to crack open the Diablo 2 item format. Items would be saved/loaded from the de-facto standard D2I file format for items. Due to the overwhelming number of people playing D2 v1.10, this toolkit will be created explicitly for this version. Don't other programs already do this?Well, yes and no. Other programs (some of which have notably been made 1.09+1.10 compliant) do allow you to create items, but not in a 100% no-documentation way. For example, would you rather say, I want a Unique Bow with Unique ID #6, or would you rather say I want a Windforce? The end goalThe goal of this tool is a command-line program that walks through a series of steps (a wizard, if you will) to create any possible item in Diablo 2. For example, a set of choices could be thus: Create Sword (Broadsword) - Quality (Exceptional) - Magic (Steals 5% Life Per Hit + 3% Mana Per Hit) - Socketed (3 Sockets) - Socket 1 (Perfect Skull) - Socket 2 (Empty) - Socket 3 (Empty). Save to File ("Super Sword.d2i") Coming to websites near you in mid-to-late 2004Stay tuned - this will be a real humdinger! |
